Marjan Moosavi is an Iranian-Canadian PhD candidate at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies. In Iran, she won Iran’s National Fadjr Theatre Festival Special Acting Award (1989) and Iranian Women’s Theatre Festival Award for her research on “Gender Dynamics” in plays by Iranian women playwrights (2009). Her professional work is rounded out with dramaturgy, dramatic translation, and sessional work as an instructor. She has articles on Iranian dramaturgy and diasporic theatre published in The Routledge Companion to Dramaturgy, TDR (The Drama Review), Cambridge’s New Theatre Quarterly, and Ecumenica.  In spring 2018 she taught the Middle Eastern Theatre course that was offered for the first time at the University of Toronto. She curated the first Photo Exhibition on the Middle Eastern Theatre featuring rare photos of traditional performances and also theatrical productions from seven countries during the 1950s and 1960s. Her scholarly interests include Iranian and Middle Eastern performing arts, cross-cultural theatre, transnational feminist theories, postcolonial performance studies, and critical methodology in Middle Eastern theatre studies. theatresearcher@gmail.com
