Marjan Moosavi is an Iranian-Canadian PhD candidate at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies. In Iran, she won Iran’s National Fadjr Theatre Festival Special Acting Award (1989) and Iranian Women’s Theatre Festival Award for her research on “Gender Dynamics” in plays by Iranian women playwrights (2009). After moving to North America, her professional work is rounded out with dramaturgy, dramatic translation, and sessional work as an instructor. She has articles on Iranian dramaturgy and diasporic theatre published in The Routledge Companion to Dramaturgy, TDR (The Drama Review), New Theatre Quarterly, and Critical Stages. She is the 2018 Graduate Fellow at the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies at the University of Toronto, where she is researching Middle Eastern diasporic theatre and performance in Toronto. Her scholarly interests include Iranian and Middle Eastern performing arts, cross-cultural theatre, transnational feminist theories, postcolonial performance studies, and critical methodology in Middle Eastern theatre studies.
