An interactive and virtual performance that plays with the work structures of “camgirls” to promote “erotic” encounters. In this performance, Janaina Leite repeats the masked figure from her awarded work “Stabat Mater”, and challenges herself to learn “how to be a camgirl”. Coached by Anita Saltiel, a professional camgirl and porn actress, Janaina posed herself as an “amateur” to live this experience. The sentence “Do you like to only look or can I talk to you?” is part of the script that Anita made for Janaina as a structure for relating, approaching, or sustaining conversations with clients.

The title 101 nights is a reference to the book “One Thousand and One Nights” (often known in English as “Arabian Nights”), in which Scheherazade must entertain the sultan with her stories, night after night so that she is not killed. This “joke” plays with the notion that camgirls must keep their client’s attention (since they are paid per minute, so most of their work is not sexual, but erotic, imaginary, dramaturgical, and therapeutic, as in finding means to sustain the clients’ attention for as long as possible); on the other hand, it refers to the time that Janaina dedicated to this experiment during the peak of social isolation due to the pandemic. 101 nights of isolation, 101 nights of “erotic” interaction with no risk of contagion, 101 nights of a vivid imagination to avoid dying. 400 hours of footage has been dramaturgically worked, edited, and recreated for online performance and repurposed in materials such as an erotic book that recreates the journey of these 101 nights.
