Gad Kaynar is the former Chair of the Theatre Arts Department in Tel Aviv University, General Secretary to Israel Centre of the International Theatre Institute (I.T.I.), and Chairman of the General Union of Writers in Israel. His books include: New German Drama (1984), The Cameri Theatre of Tel-Aviv (2008), and forthcoming The Reality Convention in Hebrew Theatre and Recent German Dramaturgy. Kaynar is a recipient of an 'Israel Science Foundation' grant (2004) for research on Applied Dramaturgy, and for a study revising the socio-political role of mainstream theatre (2010).
